At the top of your priority list when it comes to paintball field safety should be eye goggles to shield your eyes from errant paintballs. What you have to remember and what a lot of folks have to be reminded of is that paintballs are usually being fired at you at a speed of 280 feet per second. That's right... 280 feet per second! So it's important to cover your eyes because one of those paintballs could literally take your eye out! If you want to protect your entire face and neck area you can buy a paintball helmet to fully protect yourself against errant paintballs.
Other then goggles you can also opt to wear a vest if you are concerned about welts or the impact of the paintballs but more and more paintballers are now wearing vests to improve their game by stockpiling paintballs and other devices on their chests inside their vests.
It's important to cover all of your skin including your arms and legs if you are at all concerned about welts. Wear thick and preferably padded clothing if possible. Paintball pants and knee pads can be worn for those that feel like being "Rambo" out there and are intent on rolling around and getting dirty. A thick pair of pants and a thick top should do for just about everybody else.
