For whatever reason there is a stigma about going out and playing with a pump paintball gun but I'm here to tell you that a good pump paintball gun can actually improve your game...
It's happened to me and if you're not careful it will happen to you... You find yourself on the paintball field with some guys that are armed with pump paintball guns and inside you chuckle. You got a ton of paint and the fastest paintball gun on the field. And then the guys with the pump paintball guns proceed to spank you all over the paintball field. Like I said, it's happened to me and if you're not careful it will happen to you.
The moral of this post is that you can learn a thing or two by playing with a pump paintball gun.
In my case I got beat because my opponent basically set himself up for one shot. He waited until I made a mistake and then he took his shot and he didn't miss. He wasn't thinking offense when I was spraying him with paint he was just thinking survive and then he countered with a perfect shot.
In my opinion a good pump paintball gun is better then a used paintball gun for a beginner because it forces the beginner to learn the finer points of the game instead of merely relying on your paintball gun to win. A lot of serious paintballers practice with pump paintball guns occasionally and here's why:
A pump paintball gun forces you to aim
Since it's single-shot action and not "spray-and-pray" like most semi-automatic or automatic paintball guns on the market today, a pump paintball gun forces you to actually aim your gun before you fire it. With a pump paintball gun you usually only have time for one shot so you have to make it count. If your aim is a bit off, playing with a pump paintball gun will do wonders for your aim and game.
Using a pump paintball gun also forces you to strategize and it forces you to be patient
You can't go toe-to-toe with someone who's got a semi-automatic or automatic paintball gun unless you like getting pelted with paint. Using a pump paintball gun will force you to look at the game differently and ultimately it will make you a better player.
Using a pump paintball gun will:
- improve your aim
- make you a better strategist
- make you more patient
If your paintball game could use a little improvement and you're up for something a little different you may want to consider practicing with a pump paintball gun out on the paintball field. And remember it takes more then good paintball guns to make good paintball players.
