More Tips On Buying Your First Paintball Gun

A few more tips for buying your first paintball gun...

Your first paintball gun should not be automatic. First of all automatic paintball guns are expensive and they require a lot of maintenance. Most noobs #1 can't afford the higher priced automatic models and #2 don't know a thing about maintaining a paintball gun and these two things make buying an automatic paintball gun as your first paintball gun a bad decision. Furthermore automatic paintball guns create bad habits in beginners to paintballing... the problem with automatic paintball guns is that they spray the entire field with paintballs so you never really learn how to aim with an automatic paintball gun. Proceed at your own risk if you decide to pick up an automatic paintball gun as your first. If you absolutely have to go with an automatic paintball gun as your first market then I suggest you not spend too much cash and go for something inexpensive like a Spyder VS2 which is a decent paintball gun for the price.

Buy a gun that is reliable an easy to maintain. Most paintball enthusiasts will  most likely recommend you buy a Tippman paintball gun if you are looking for a good, reliable gun that will last you a long time. The reason is Tippman guns are very reliable and they don't require as much maintenance as some of the other guns do. They may not be as flashy but Tippman guns are reliable and they last a long time.

Go with a pump paintball gun if you're broke. Pump paintball guns are great for beginners for several reasons... #1 they teach how to conserve paintball out on the paintball field. #2 Pump paintball guns teach you how to shoot more accurately because you have fewer shots to work with. #3 Pump paintball guns will make you a better and smarter player because of the imitations that they will impose on you and when you do decide to upgrade to an electric paintball gun you will flat out rock! As fars as pump paintball guns go I've heard a lot of really good things about the Phantom brand.

Don't upgrade a paintball gun that you will outgrow. Many a beginner to paintball has made the mistake of upgrading a Spyder gun only to find out that after dumping hundreds of dollars into it that it doesn't perform anywhere near as well as a Tippman of similar value. If you need to start out with an automatic paintball gun, go ahead, but don't make a mistake an upgrade a relatively inexpensive paintball gun because it only has the potential to get so much better... When you are ready to upgrade your paintball gun bite the bullet and spend the money on a better quality base model paintball gun like a Tippman.

A quick explanation of the various types of paintball guns

Pump Action paintball gun. A pump action paintball gun works the same way a pump action shotgun works. Paintballs have to be manually pumped into the chamber with a pump of the gun's mechanism. Pump paintball guns don't require an air source like semi-automatic and automatic paintball guns require. Pump action paintball guns can be more accurate and are a lot less wasteful then semi-automatic and automatic paintball guns as well. If you're going to go with a pump action paintball gun you should look for one that has a "constant trigger" which will basically keep the trigger held down while you pump away...

Semi-automatic paintball guns. These are the most popular and most prevalent in paintball and for good reason, they're fairly economical and they can shoot paintballs at a much faster rate then pump action paintball guns. Semi-automatic paintball guns can be used for both single shot assaults are an all out suppressing fire.

Automatic paintball guns. These are by far the most expensive of all paintball guns but these also belong to the folks that want to annihilate everyone on the paintball field... If your goal is to dominate on the paintball field then an automatic paintball gun is your weapon of choice. Basically you hold down the trigger and your automatic paintball gun rains down paintballs on your opponent. It is important to note that fully automatic paintball guns are banned in some tournaments.
